Cradle to Cradle
The book Cradle to Cradle: Remaking the Way We Make Things, published in 2002 by architect William McDonough and chemist Michael Braungart, changes the way one thinks about the ‘stuff’ in one’s life. Reading it represented a first brick laid on my path into professional organizing. The authors offer stirring arguments for a ground-up redesign of every product, where its’ complete life cycle, including recycling or landfill, is built into the initial design of said product. Rather than turning pop bottles into sweaters which ultimately end up land-filled, they propose a system where the pop bottle is infinitely reused as a pop bottle.
